Artisan Industries recently participated in the AIChE 2024 Annual Meeting in San Diego, CA, where we presented our latest technologies and solutions to a global audience of chemical engineers and industry professionals. Our team showcased some of our most advanced systems designed to improve sustainability, process efficiency, and waste management across various industries.
Highlights from Our Booth at AIChE 2024
At the meeting, we demonstrated several of our cutting-edge technologies, including:
- ROTHOTHERM® MINI – A continuous lab-scale evaporator/dryer designed for process development and optimization, offering a hands-on solution for efficient product concentration, drying, and waste reduction.
- Horizontal Thin-Film Evaporators – Our flagship technology for concentrating liquid waste streams, including PFAS-laden wastewater, into solid waste for easier disposal and treatment.
- Continuous Reactions – Our expertise in continuous reaction processes for improved efficiency and sustainability in chemical manufacturing.
- Product Purification Solutions – Advanced technology for purifying chemicals and products at various scales, ensuring higher purity with lower energy consumption.
Our team was thrilled to share how these technologies can help organizations reduce their environmental impact while improving operational efficiency.
Sr. Chemical Engineer Michael Fedorenko’s Presentation
One of the key events at the conference was Michael Fedorenko, our Senior Chemical Engineer, who gave an insightful presentation titled “Advancements in PFAS Separation and Concentration by Artisan Industries” on the second day of the meeting. His talk focused on the latest developments in our efforts to address the critical environmental challenge posed by PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) contamination.
Recap of Michael Fedorenko’s Presentation
During his presentation, Michael shared important updates on Artisan Industries’ ongoing work to tackle PFAS contamination, including:
- Pilot Testing and Commercial Success
Michael showcased the Artisan Rototherm®, a horizontal thin-film evaporator that effectively concentrates PFAS-laden wastewater. The Rototherm® transforms the wastewater into a free-flowing powder while discharging clean water, making it easier to handle and treat. This system has demonstrated commercial success in pilot-scale applications and is a key part of Artisan’s broader strategy for PFAS remediation. - Recent Developments in Process Intensification
In addition to the Rototherm®, Michael discussed foam fractionation—a process intensification technology that Artisan has been researching and testing in pilot trials. This method shows great potential for improving the concentration of PFAS from water, enhancing separation efficiency and enabling more cost-effective treatment. - Future Work: The PFAS Destruction Train
Looking ahead, Michael unveiled Artisan’s PFAS Destruction Train, an innovative, integrated system designed to continuously separate, concentrate, and destroy PFAS contaminants in a streamlined process. This cutting-edge technology aims to address the need for scalable PFAS treatment systems that can handle the massive flow rates typically encountered in large-scale remediation projects.
Addressing the PFAS Challenge
PFAS chemicals are widely recognized as one of the most persistent and dangerous environmental pollutants, with contamination affecting water supplies, soil, and even food sources. Traditional treatment methods have struggled to effectively remove or destroy PFAS, leaving industries with limited options for managing these contaminants.
Over the past three years, Artisan Industries has been dedicated to developing a comprehensive solution for PFAS remediation. By concentrating PFAS-laden wastewater into a solid form, our technology facilitates the use of destruction techniques and helps bridge the gap in capacity for large-scale PFAS treatment.
A Successful Experience at AIChE 2024
Artisan Industries was proud to be part of the AIChE Annual Meeting, where we connected with industry experts, showcased our innovations, and discussed the future of PFAS treatment and other environmental technologies. We received valuable feedback and had many productive conversations with attendees, strengthening our commitment to providing sustainable solutions for critical environmental challenges.
