Stripping & Devolatilization

Continuous stripping technology that removes unwanted volatiles, odors, contaminants, solvents, and light ends while helping preserve product quality and yield.

Overview

Built for Volatile Removal Under Demanding Process Conditions

Materials that are heat-sensitive, viscous, foaming, solids-containing, or otherwise difficult to process through conventional stripping methods often need volatile components removed down to very low concentrations, including parts per million or even parts per billion. Artisan’s systems are built for these conditions. Teams typically turn to stripping and devolatilization when a product is failing a residual specification, when odors or contaminants persist after conventional processing, or when foaming, fouling, or plugging limits what existing equipment can handle.

The Artisan Evaporator/Stripperâ„¢ delivers continuous stripping and devolatilization through a thin-film, disc-and-tube configuration that keeps material moving while controlling removal at the molecular level, helping limit product loss and create more stable processing conditions across a wide range of challenging streams.

For applications requiring ultra-deep vacuum operation, multiple stages, or enhanced separation of heavier components, Artisan’s Short Path Stripper® builds on the Evaporator/Stripper™ platform with an internal condenser, minimizing pressure drop, lowering operating temperatures, and reducing residence time for sensitive or high-value streams.

Key Benefits

Coordinated system development from concept to installation

Removal of residual solvents and monomers

Removes residual solvents, unreacted monomers, light ends, and other low-boiling impurities from demanding product applications.

Protection of heat-sensitive materials

Thin-film operation, vacuum conditions, and controlled residence time reduce degradation risks, while Short Path Stripper® configurations can reach vacuum levels below 0.01 mmHg absoulte with residence times under 90 seconds.

Stable processing of viscous and difficult feeds

Maintains consistent product handling and reliable component removal across foaming, fouling-prone, and solids-containing streams.

Greater separation capability in a compact footprint

Multiple equilibrium stages, internal condensation, and low pressure drop achieve deeper volatile reduction than single-stage short path evaporators, without rollers, lubricants, or moving parts.

Applications

Where Artisan Stripping & Devolatilization Is Applied

Polymer devolatilization and monomer removal

Residual monomers, solvents, and light ends in polymer and specialty resin production.

Pharmaceutical and specialty chemical streams

Residual solvent reduction to meet purity and compliance requirements on high-value finished products.

Edible oils and food ingredients

Odor-causing compounds and light ends, contaminants, color bodies, residual solvents, and free fatty acids removed from oils and related process streams.

Specialty and fine chemicals

Volatile impurity removal from narrow-process-window materials with limited thermal tolerance, high-value components, or strict purity targets.

Antioxidants, oleochemicals, and specialty materials

Unwanted volatiles, residual solvents, light ends, or process impurities reduced while preserving the desired component.

Artisan’s Stripping & Devolatilization Technology. Your Application.

The right approach begins with the component targeted for removal, the sensitivity of the base material, viscosity, foaming tendency, solids content, operating pressure, residence time, feed rate, evaporation rate, materials of construction, and final product specification. Artisan uses these details to identify whether the Evaporator/Stripper™, Short Path Stripper®, vacuum system, or a custom configuration best fits the process, including column diameters from 2 inches to 36 inches and configurations ranging from 1 to more than 4 stages.
