Built for Materials That Get Harder to Process as They Concentrate
For demanding concentration and evaporation applications, continuous thin-film processing creates a controlled environment for materials that resist conventional handling – feeds that thicken as they concentrate, carry heat-sensitive components, contain solids, or require careful removal of moisture, solvents, or other volatiles. Where rising-film or falling-film evaporators become limited by viscosity, thermal sensitivity, or solids content, the Rototherm® provides a horizontal thin-film approach for materials that standard evaporation equipment may not handle effectively. The Rototherm® is the equipment behind this process: a horizontal thin-film evaporator that maintains a renewed film across the heated surface, improving thermal contact while keeping material moving continuously through the unit.
Vacuum operation, indirect heat transfer, and short residence time help limit thermal exposure, making the system well suited to materials that become more difficult to handle as evaporation or concentration progresses. At temperature, the system can process materials up to 4 million centipoise, helping maintain steady operation even as the product thickens. Depending on material behavior and process goals, the Rototherm® may also concentrate suitable feeds to very high solids levels or continue toward drying to powder. For select equilibrium-driven processes – such as certain esterification or saponification reactions – the same continuous removal of water, solvent, or residual components can also be configured to support the broader process, though Artisan’s core focus here is concentration and volatile removal rather than reactor design.

Preconcentration upstream of spray drying - Reduces moisture content in viscous slurries before spray drying, increasing feed solids, reducing dryer load, and improving efficiency for suitable powder-production processes.
Purification of high-value polymers and specialty chemicals - Removes volatiles under vacuum to purify polymers, antioxidants, vitamins, pharmaceuticals, and specialty chemicals without degrading product quality.
Saponification and glycerin separation - Thin-film evaporation can separate glycerin from saponified product as part of the broader process.
